I have been happily running Linux for my whole workload (VR and Fortnite aside) for years now.

Gentoo sits at the spotlight in my setup with a dedicated PCI-E 4.0 m.2, Windows 11 is relegated to a fossil SATA SSD.

Even gaming is great, CP 2077 with RT Ultra at 1440p + 100's of Mods runs great!

Gentoo, I picked it primarily out of a desire to get to know Linux better, but the amount of control over the system is great.

I run stable packages other than kernel and mesa, those I run latest.

I still keep my first two PC's, one of them running 95 and the other 98, they probably still work too.

This is really unfortunate, but I still have not lost hope for the Year of the Linux Desktop, it will probably just take ... a long time ...

The first one that I tried was Knoppix, it came in a Rescue CD that was bundled with an IT Magazine that I bought, this was during the early 2000's.

My favorite has to be Gentoo Linux!

I only ever really use Windows for VR with my Quest 2, or certain games that either do not work all that well under Linux, or employ Linux-Incompatible Anti-Cheat Software. 💜

For development and cybersecurity studies, I always choose Linux. 🐧
