Do you know why we're still all in on DEI at EAPM? Because you can't have accessibility without diversity, equity, and inclusion.

There. We said it.

"𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞"

I spoke to two journalists living with endometriosis about the progress which has been made in media coverage of this misunderstood disease, and the work that is left to be done.

Our Style and Accessibility Guide and our magazine The Word are free, don't have paywalls, and don't have ads. That's the public model. But it also means that those who can afford to give do it for those that can't. Donate now during our fall fund drive.

Not being a shill for Amazon or Bezos.

Just part of the value we bring as a broke nonprofit out to make journalism more accessible with journalism-focused accessibility trainings, the Style and Accessibility Guide, The Word, and one day when its funded, the National Tab.

I've been editing all day (with a quick break for a bit of reporting). I'm excited for tomorrow's article in The Word about how media deals with a certain women's health issue.

No, not that one.
Or that one.

You'll just have to read to find out.

Hey! It's our fall fund drive. Support organizations that don't give up on DEIA. And we're literally all about the A.

(Accessibility, that is.)

It's National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

At EAPM, a big part of our mission is making the journalism industry more accessible to journalists with disabilities, chronic illnesses, who are neurodivergent, veterans, and others traditionally left out.

There are some anti-trans journalists whose entire beat is spreading information in a bad-faith manner about my community—as I've long decried (amongst many others) in pieces including like this short one recently for @equalaccesspublicmedia.org ... bsky.app/profile/equa...

No free society can survive without a free press that holds its government to account.

But a free press that isn't accessible is leaving people out.

We're here to make news more accessible to all.

Really excited for this presentation coming up, as it will be my second of two AccessFest panels this year. I'm working on my parts tonight and getting giddy.

Do I know how to have a fun Saturday night?

(Yes, yes, I do!)

All three of these sessions are going to be good! (And I say that not just because I'm in the last one, but because @stacykess.bsky.social, @emiliaruzicka.bsky.social, @joannaskao.bsky.social, Sam Evans, and Johny Cassidy are all great people who are helping making journalism more accessible.

The EAPM Style and Accessibility Guide is doing its part for the fall fund drive by looking for 15 new Guide Patrons. We only need 14 more people to meet the goal! Did you know you can become a Guide Patron for as little as $2.99 a month? That's cheaper than a matcha latte.

We're not owned by some rich billionaire. We're not owned by anyone.

There's no government funding. Just funding by the people.

Grants have dried up to almost zero. And that's why we need your help.

Help us raise $1,425 more to fight back.
