"Never before had an official document of this nature demonstrated such indifference toward America's adversaries and such disregard toward its traditional allies, especially those in Europe." www.lemonde.fr/en/internati...
US national security strategy targets Europe and spares adversaries
The document released by the White House on Friday, in which Washington's traditional alliances no longer entail any real commitment, marks a historic break from the post-1945 era.

That spell upon the minds of men
Breaks never to unite again,
That led them to adore
Those Pagod things of sabre sway
With fronts of brass, and feet of clay.

Morning Guy and all. Boggling currently at how the BBC is morphing into GBBC. *sigh*

Unreconstructed psyches caused by being completely unchallenged all their lives. The circles they move in do not require them to reassess their attitudes.

In a way, I'm not surprised, given the size of TVs these days.

I read Dr Faustus a long while ago, mostly because I wanted to read why Schoenberg was upset with Mann's descriptions of a 'new method of composition' (i.e. the Twelve-tone Method). turned out Mann didn't really describe anything at all.

Agree about the ducks - I got special food treats for them once specifically for wild ducks/geese/swans and it was - "Nah you can eff of with that health food mate, where's the bread?"

Behold the child, by Nature’s kindly law,
Pleased with a rattle, tickled with a straw:
Some livelier plaything gives his youth delight,
A little louder, but as empty quite:

Wait until it all starts happening by drone/robot, and it'll be impossible to move for things being delivered.

I am reminded of that award given out in one of Terry Pratchett's novels:

There are many items reported in the news that are often strangely inconsistent, seemingly bland stories, but which don't add up.

It's often a small detail, just like those plot details in an Agatha Christie.

Now that the 'elephant in the room' is now being acknowledged, hopefully a conversation as to how to deal with the elephant can take place.

Personally, I'm fed up with red lines, from May's Mansion House speech to Starmer's 'respect' for the (probably dodgy) Referendum result.
