Take a look at Wisconsin. The SPD historically only paid $40/hr and fairly recently raised it to $70. Private counsel appointed by the court make more, but lawyers are asked to take contract rates that outrageously low.

It’s a disgrace at a time when our elected officials are talking about the importance of saving money to lower taxes on the wealthy while at the same time working night and day to take away our safety net.
