I use this recipe from an old Cranks book and its fairly foolproof for me. I substitute golden syrup for treacle and I add a drop or two of vanilla essence before the oats. Sometimes if the mix is too wet it sets hard - try missing out some of the oats - say 25g - and substituting oat meal.

On this day in 1918 my great uncle, Private Edgar Wood, was killed at Villers-Outreaux near Cambrai while fighting with the Welsh Regiment. He was 20 years old. He is buried in the tiny cemetery of Moulin-de-Pierre with 47 others who died that day.

OTD 1915 my Great Uncle Hugh was admitted to The General Infirmary at Leeds as a result of injuries received while fighting with 1/6 Lancs Fusiliers at Gallipoli. He was discharged to Rawdon Convalescent Home in October then home on furlough in December.

@gardenstuff.bsky.social Some interesting info here about helping bees as autumn approaches. I did this with the sedum in my garden last year but don't know if they used it or not.

@gardenstuff.bsky.social Slowly establishing a herb border (in pots) in a border previously overrun with ivy. The fennel has done really well. Can I crush these seed pods and use in cooking - they smell divine?

@gardenstuff.bsky.social We are on the Isle of Man at the moment and wanted to leave something to brighten a grave but which would withstand the winter winds here. Eventually we decided on a couple of heathers and ivy. Fingers crossed they survive 🤞
