I agree with that. There are all kinds of stories that people can gain good ideas on how to live their lives from. Problem comes from insisting it’s not a story but real.

I think I misunderstood. I thought you were drawing a distinction in the teachings of Jesus as if they didn’t also include the horrors of the Old Testament. Sorry about that. Matthew 5:17–18 is Jesus saying that the Old Testament laws still stand.

All religions by nature come down to feelings anyway once you start to scrutinize the actual evidence of them. It’s not at all a stretch to me for this to happen. They just decide that what their book says means something else when it becomes inconvenient.
