Fans who grew up watching the first three seasons in the early aughts are going to show favoritism towards them while writing off anything that came afterwards, simply because it's not what they grew up with.
I've seen patterns like this in other fandoms, too (MLP, TMNT, etc.)

Kinda late, yeah I agree. Not only was the literal ass translation, but also the atrocious audio mixing through the whole song, Soap vocals for example have some distorted and reverb effects for some reason and it sounds awful...

Yes, I'm aware the dub itself was notoriously dreadful, but it didn't have a damn thing to do with the VAs. They all did the best they could.
