If the therapist is doing their job, all they are doing is assisting the client in improving their awareness of the factors that affect them in making choices, both internally and external to them. Those factors could be sociocultural, neurobiological, spiritual, or psychological.

Relying on encounter and dialog - in-the-moment presence - cultivates curiosity rather than fear, and is the center of the Gestalt approach to life.

Fear of the unknown seems to drive religious fanatics. Challenging the unknown through I-Thou dialogue builds community that is the most powerful antidote to fear, and a sense of secure attachment to other (and self) that promotes the courage to follow your heart and dreams. Bravo, Pope.

Anything you do - including nothing - always rewires your brain. Any behavior generates learnings, and the learning are literally "rewiring." If you mean "SIGNIFICANTLY REWIRED" then you must mean that you had a very new and different experience that altered your reward structure for doing nothing.

I was wondering when MAGAts would come for therapists since of course we identify the extreme dangers of NPD, the mental illness that Trump suffers from.

The obsession with systems theory as somehow characterizing what therapy is sounds like someone defending a harmful, sick and now moribund societal system at the cost of individual health and agency, trying to reverse the role of therapists as agents of social change advocating for mental health.

This sure sounds like evidence that today’s psychiatrists, unlike those of the 1960s, simply aren’t trained in psychotherapy adequately to understand how It is done. The misunderstanding of the method and purpose of validation in therapy is egregiously wrong.

In the case of Trump and Elon, their fathers traumatized them with constant withering disapproval and criticism. And of course their mothers didn’t protect them.
