I wrote about this at CAR over a decade ago. My conclusion was that, if anything, ridehailing would increase VMT which would increase vehicles sold. Even if it allows a marginal number of HH's to live car-free, the auto industry benefits.

I spend a lot of time thinking about what is wrong with us (straight white men). None of my straight white friends are insane. A couple uncles, maybe.

I remember reading about that guy like 20 years ago taking like 100 supplement pills a day with the intent of living until he could upload his brain to The Singularity. That stuck with me because I didn't understand how a smart guy could be so daft.
