David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

"Wokeness" has a real branding problem. We should call it what it is: giving half a shit about people who don't look exactly like you. It's too easy for the assholes to claim they're "anti-woke." Would be better if they had to admit they're anti having a whiff of empathy (which is what they are).

The late Vernon Forrest is perhaps the perfect distillation of the argument over how much having one great fighter’s number is worth. A look at the cases for and against the former champ who's been newly (belatedly) added to the Hall of Fame ballot: www.boxingscene.com/articles/is-...
Is Vernon Forrest headed for the Hall of Fame?
Forrest is finally on the IBHOF ballot 17 years after his final fight and 16 years after his death. Eric Raskin looks at the cases for and against Forrest's induction into Canastota.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you give a list of the prescriptions you take to a federal government that has directly targeted people with chronic illness, mental illness, disability, autism, etc, with the eugenic language of elimination and stated outright they’re everything wrong with the country.

I can’t believe I’m watching interviews of city mayors talking about how they are coordinating with other mayors to discuss how to protect their residents FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

I know we are “used to it” but it is absolutely insane

I got an advance look at the new Dwayne Johnson/MMA movie "The Smashing Machine," and I wrote a little something about one of the film's supporting actors, Oleksandr Usyk, a damned fine choice to play a world-class combat athlete from Ukraine:

Oleksandr Usyk playing the part of a champion in transition
Usyk has an acting role in the The Smashing Machine and is showing plenty of signs that he is preparing for a life after boxing, says Eric Raskin, who also reviews the movie.

I don't know about Tylenol and autism and all that, but I do know we need to ban whatever meds Mary Anne Trump was on during her fourth pregnancy.

It was a sad weekend in the gambling world. Can't quite claim I was truly close with Dave Sharapan, but I was privileged to call him a friend, and to write a little something this morning about him. RIP, Consig. www.ingame.com/remembering-...

What, the big takeaway of "don't worry about my friend Jimmy, he can take his content somewhere else" didn't do it for you?

Excellent piece, Brian. I will no doubt be stealing your closing line to use in conversations about what's happening to our country. (And not crediting you. Sorry.)

Ok, I keep getting asked about how to complain about Kimmel.
The best way to complain that will have the biggest impact?
See if you have a Sinclair or nexstar station in your area.
2. Watch the local newscast tonight or some time this week.
3. Note the companies that bought tv adverts.
4. Call them and let them know you will boycott them until they quit supporting that media company.
Trust me. I worked in tv for 45 years.
Nothing you do will have greater impact.

Every major talent that works for ABC and Disney should refuse to show up for work until Jimmy Kimmel is reinstated.

Marvel movies need to shutdown. Ditto the sitcoms.

Collective boycott.

Corporations love money more than anything,& this will harm them and force them to do the right thing.
