Sadly, it appears Substack is participating in the increasing controls the power mongers in the UK are salivating to implement.

So the question is getting stronger for me each day, "Is my participation still worthwhile?"

For me, this image evokes such longing, loneliness, and something deep.

An iconic moment, featuring one of the longest laughs ever recorded from a studio audience on American television. Ed Ames showing Johnny Carson how to throw a tomahawk on The Tonight Show in 1965.

In 1964, a composer named John Williams was hired to write a theme song for a new TV show called GILLIGAN'S ISLAND.

Sherwood Schwartz disliked it, fired him, and got someone else to write a new theme song.

This is the John Williams original for the pilot.

I think this is an example of the poster being better than the film! 😀

The 8x smoother versions of Jason and the Argonauts (1963) are clearly better.

But are they more satisfying?

My 9yr old self, upon reliving these magical moments thinks not.

Why wait?

I prefer to be defiant now!
Defy the odds, defy the authorities!

“At 30, I used to exercise to look good. At the age of 50 to be fit At 70 not to be padded in a bed. At 80 to be able to live without assistance. Now at 99 I do it out of pure defiance. ”- Dick Van Dyke

This is from the 1937 film, "Sh! The Octopus". I have not seen the film, but the reviews I've read are not complimentary. The film is part comedy, part drama. But this scene freaked out audiences! I came across this clip about it and how it was done. Remember---1937!

I try to remember that each of us has our allotment of intelligence. Some more, some less. It's a gift that elevates us above animals. We can use it well, or not.

Critical thinking is a double-edged sword. It reveals my errors, which can be ego-deflating. But I prefer deflation to living in error.

This is so lovely. May it offer you a moment to pause and place the cacophony of the world on hold.

This is the scene (from Wings, 1927) that got me started on my retirement hobby of writing new music for silent films.

The artistry and the technical brilliance of those early filmmakers are, to me, unsurpassed.
