This clip draws on the Zaum language and Khlebnikov’s Zangezi, where a prophet communes with birds, gods, and the cosmos.
The prophet is a tree. His followers’ wooden marching spears inform the symbolic vernacular used in the animations conceived for the play.

Considering the extreme eccentricity of Zaum-related works produced in all mediums since 1913, the notion of “Zaum design” may be an oxymoron. Design is more about function than poetics. Regardless I tried to imagine possible forms to evoke the idea of “post-language”, if not “post-design.”

Graphic design has contributed its own forms of “Zaum” since the 1920’s whether against war, industry, capitalism, colonialism or technology. As birds continue with their songs, gods with their thunders and stars with their whispers it may well be that today’s drivel is buried in LLMs.
