kern/59770 - now, to find someone to commit it
November 17, 2025 at 1:41 AM
this whole flow and codebase is like if freebsd-2 stayed frozen

i mean cool, now i just need to use send-pr to send in a one line diff to begin with.

ty I try to be seen but not heard

fiiiiiine

(although I think this is my first reply)

ooo maybe! the problem though is it plainly hangs for a while, which makes remote debugging a pita :-)
November 16, 2025 at 4:16 PM
oh dear lord this hurts
November 16, 2025 at 7:10 AM
np!
November 16, 2025 at 5:07 AM
how's your brother/sister treat you?
(and how's your mum doing these days?)
November 16, 2025 at 4:48 AM
oh god I had that trinitron monitor too at one point. Damn.
November 16, 2025 at 2:10 AM
IT ABSOLUTELY FUCKING DID
November 14, 2025 at 9:24 PM
(but on my monitor that did this, there wasn't horizontal distortion on displayed signals, only that brightness variance imposed over whatever was displayed)
November 14, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Oh that's an interesting theory too (and again one I can't locally test cause I don't have an isolated scope, so here's to hoping Adrian can see it!)
November 14, 2025 at 5:17 PM
I'd try but I don't currently have an isolation transformer / isolated scope, so i'd blow my scope if i poked around in the required way :-)
November 14, 2025 at 5:16 PM
yeah, i want to figure it out too.

Maybe look at the pattern on the screen, figure out what the frequency would be at its natural hsync, see if you can see that noise on any of the power rails?

Also, I never figured out if it was on B+ or EHT, or the cathode drive signal paths. Maybe scope it out?
November 14, 2025 at 5:16 PM
i hate to say it, but caps? my 1084s did this until i replaced a bunch of not quite happy large caps in the deflection circuitry.

my guess (which i can't backup until i get another 1084 in this state and take meas's) is there's a big ass pull on the power rails during the beam return and ramp up.

i mean if the chassis isn't rusted through in the wrong spots and the transmission/drive train is in good shape....
November 14, 2025 at 4:10 PM
me: oh interesting
also me: no AI means "this is user generated stuff we can sell for AI Training"
