I’m a decade younger and the backs of my hands and arms bruise exactly like that. His skin has thinned from years of sun exposure and he’s taking aspirin. The right hand being perpetually bruised is weird but I can bump my hand on cardboard and it turns purple.

I never watched Rogers until 1991 when my 4 year old began watching. It didn’t take me long to see who he was and what he stood for. It was no surprise to find out he was an ordained minister of the PC(USA). His commitment to social justice was clear.

I wouldn’t say it was questionable. It wasn’t until the Chinese Exclusion Act that there were laws made about immigration. I’ve seen a ship’s document from 1830 that simply identified immigrants by gender and a statement that all were Protestants.

I have not heard numbers that low. Lowest I’ve heard is 37% approval. Biggest shift has been among independents. Dems and Reps are still in their entrenchments.

My own college educated sister was telling me that people should have to come into the country the ‘right way’, like our ancestors did. Our people came over from Europe between 1670 and 1850. They just got off the boat and headed south. She thought they came through Ellis Island. Sigh.

A document such as you describe would certainly add more to our understanding of the Middle Ages than the text they are praising.
