A smiling family on a foggy outdoor hike. Erin’s spouse takes a selfie, wearing glasses and a cap, while Erin stands beside them, wearing a beanie and carrying their youngest child in a backpack carrier. Their other child stands in front, looking through a pair of binoculars. The background features misty hills and sparse vegetation.

Marriage equality is secure for now, but history shows legal rights can be fragile. Vigilance & proactive legal planning are essential. Complacency isn’t an option.
erinmullin.bsky.social
Also consider reviewing/updating property, financial, & guardianship documents to ensure protections if laws change. These steps safeguard your rights & family now, regardless of future court decisions.

What LGBTQ+ couples can do now to protect their families:

Follow the 9 key legal documents recommended by @YourGayLawyer (POA, healthcare proxy, will, etc.)

Pursue second-parent adoption, even if both parents are on the birth certificate
erinmullin.bsky.social
Federal law helps: the 2022 Respect for Marriage Act requires all states to recognize same-sex marriages performed elsewhere. But it’s not a permanent shield—state-level attacks & court challenges are possible.
erinmullin.bsky.social
Even if Trump hasn’t publicly prioritized overturning Obergefell, his admin has pursued Project 2025 policies restricting LGBTQ+ rights in schools, healthcare, & federal programs—creating a legal environment that normalizes challenges.
erinmullin.bsky.social
Justices Clarence Thomas & Samuel Alito have openly questioned Obergefell. They only need a few votes to hear a challenge. Legal petitions like Davis v. Ermold keep the issue alive.
erinmullin.bsky.social
The Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending nearly 50 years of precedent. Obergefell v. Hodges has only been law for 10 years. No precedent is untouchable.
erinmullin.bsky.social
🧵 The Supreme Court could revisit same-sex marriage. Some experts say “don’t worry,” but history & current politics suggest we can’t be complacent. Here’s why ⬇️

These documents help secure control, safety, and peace of mind for my family, no matter what happens next.

If you’re LGBTQ+ and want to protect your family, now is the time to prepare.

Preparation is resistance.

Tangible Personal Property Memorandum

Now, with the Supreme Court soon deciding whether to take up a case aimed at overturning Obergefell v. Hodges, we’re moving on to protecting our assets and ourselves.
erinmullin.bsky.social
We knew this administration was coming after LGBTQ+ individuals and families, so we proactively ensured we had all the legal paperwork in place to protect our rights as parents to our children — including having the non-bio parent adopt our kids.

Trump promised “never again” but tore up the Iran nuclear deal and then bombed Iran’s nuclear sites. His actions have made the world less safe and pushed us closer to conflict. Words don’t match the reality he’s created.

Saw @heightenedscrutinydoc.com at @framelinefestival.bsky.social last night. Appalling to see courts making decisions in cases attacking trans children based on media narratives, not facts or science. This film is urgent—watch it, share it, and keep fighting.

Trans youth need to know they’re seen and loved. If you know trans youth, reach out and affirm them. If not, donate to groups like The Trevor Project, amplify trans voices, and advocate for protections. Every action counts.

SCOTUS upholds a ban on gender-affirming care as the CDC backs lenacapavir—an HIV prevention breakthrough priced out of reach. Different issues, same fight: everyone deserves access to life-saving, evidence-based care. Let science lead, not politics.
erinmullin.bsky.social
The CDC approved lenacapavir for HIV prevention—a major milestone. But approval isn’t access. It’s still priced out of reach for many. Join advocates pushing for affordable, equitable care: contact your reps, speak out, demand action.

HIV prevention drug hailed as a 'breakthrough' gets FDA approval
A drug called lenacapavir, administered in two injections a year, offers protection from HIV comparable to daily pills. One looming question: Will it be affordable for lower resource countries?

The Supreme Court’s decision in US v. Skrmetti is devastating. Letting Tennessee’s ban stand endangers trans youth and opens the door to broader attacks on trans rights—sports, bathrooms, even adult care.

This fight is far from over. Stand up, speak out, and protect trans lives.

Day 7: Santa Monica – 85 miles
Final day. Legs tired, heart full. 💗
My family was at the finish line.
Went for an ocean swim with teammates, cheered more riders in, and soaked it all up. 🌊🎉
So proud to be part of an incredible team and this powerful ride.
