I have been mad about this for years (I've known about this for years). Only so much you can do to avoid ticks, feels like they get worse every year. I'd take temporary side effects over lyme any day of the week.

Yep. When I avoid conflict with my parents re: religion I mean prayers at meals, cultural mentions (their social life is 90% religion based), and tolerating christian rock. They can guilt trip me but if they try proselytizing I will simply leave the conversation. You have to set some boundaries!

Don't like how the columnist assumes the son is hesistant to be himself with his wife. My assumption would be he feels similarly to his wife re: religion but doesn't want to get into it with his mom because he knows she won't change. I do the same with my parents, it's not worth the conflict.

Yikes good to know. Not the person you're responding to but I've been curious about this since I learned about shingles and went through my vaccine record, nice to have an answer. Marking my calendar for several decades out (unless guidance changes).

I felt like my therapist/doctor/psych started taking me way more seriously after I followed describing my symptoms with "oh! and I have a brother who was diagnosed with ADHD he was <10ish." I'm glad it helped me get assessed but it's frustrating it did make such a difference iykwim?

Also anecdotally, my handbell choir has a high rate of moms who were probably diagnosed after their kids were. But then my handbell choir functionally doubles as a social group for neurodivergent moms (not a mom but I love them it's great).

Anecdotally, my brother was diagnosed over a decade ago while I (not a dude) was only diagnosed recently. I wouldn't be shocked if a large percentage of women who were previously overlooked are getting diagnoses now because of increased awareness of inattentive symptoms and genetic inheritance.

I will caveat I hate parking in the city (and some of the other areas in the system) enough to almost always use the rail network to get in and out, and the system is very convenient if you're in the city! Just breaks down in and around the suburbs.

The other factor is the rail system is laid out like spokes on a wheel not a spiderweb, so if I want to from one of the end stations to another I have to travel to a hub station first, which means for at least several of the lines it's significantly quicker to drive.

Yep. I use local public transit when it makes sense, but if I want to take transit from my neighborhood to work it's two bus rides (25+ minutes) then light rail (20 minutes) for a total of 45+ minutes, not including wait time. It takes me 30 minutes to drive, assuming traffic is normal.

I'll consider dressing up when I get an extra 6" of seat width and leg space in economy seats. Until then, you'll see me in an extremely sexy Kirkland signature hoodie and sweatpants set lol.

unironically my favorite version of the one bed trope I've seen is it used platonically (and hilariously) with a group of people. you can do a LOT of different things with a setup that seems trope-y!

I'm related to a "birdbath [last name]" the census taker misheard lol
