Noudattaen Trumpilaista menetelmää, jossa vain pokkana lausutaan omaa kantaa tukeva väite, välittämättä sen todenperäisyydestä.

Sattumoisin luin juuri tuon HS lukijakirjoituksen, tekijä Lasse Lehtonen, Aasian tutkimuksn dosentti.

Any sufficiently large organisation can run apparently succesfully "on autopilot", for a while. Then it crashes.

The EU would really have no choice. Member states must uphold democracy and the rule of law, and nobody can pretend these would be even remotely true of Hungary after Orban makes himself a dear leader for life.

Yes. Your memories of him are genuine. The AI would just produce counterfeits. The whole concept is nauseating.

They also keep away visitors you might want. Twenty years ago I and gf had a good time in New York. Haven't been to the U.S. since, and looks like it will be while before we return, if ever. Dislike the idea of officials rummaging my online history, even though there is nothing to hide.

Not stupid. Just people with totally warped values.

Another good reason to support Ukraine: save them from being again gun fodder in the Russian army fighting against us or allies.

Hope so.

Sadly this creates oil slicks that kills marine and littoral life, but that has always happened in modern wars.

Actually, the current limit for NCOs and officers is 60. This will now rise to 65.

He probably wanted something like this to happen, in order to justify further authoritarian measures.

Girgin: "will once again begin military operations against Russia" - like there was a first time Ukraine initiated military operations...

I have often wondered if a credible threat of intervention would do the trick in Ukraine, too, but we will probably never know. No balls in the West for it.

History shows such papers are not worth anything. The Soviet Union and Finland had a mutual non-aggression treaty, which the S.U. unilaterally announced terminated on the 28. November 1939, and then attacked Finland on 30. November.

Niinkin voi sanoa. Toisaalta myös Stalinin Neuvostoliitossa talous osin pyöri vangeilla. Tunnetusti kanavia kaivettiin ja malmia louhittiin vankityövoimalla. Jopa uutta teknologiaa kehitetiin, "Ensimmäinen piiri" kertoo erikoisvankilasta jossa kehitettiin vakoilu- ja salaustekniikkaa Stalinille.

It's been a while since I read them as a kid, but wasn't there one Mars book where the action was actually set on Phobos or Deimos? (forget which). Some funky natural law was invoked to ensure our heroes shrank appropriately for the smaller celestial body.

If I saw that sight in real life, my first reaction would be I'm being robbed at gunpoint by a masked criminal.

There is no enforcement mechanism when the organizations supposed to do the enforcing are compromised. Looking at this from the outside, it is frightening how quickly the rule of law has collapsed in the U.S. (And wondering if the safeguards in my country would work any better).

Thanks. Fascinating! I don't have recollections about this, not being into video games at that time (also never had a C64 or Spectrum). I did know about the Harlin film being banned, that felt only natural then. Everyone knew you must not upset the Soviets.
