Not necessarily, this seems to be done to be able to animate each part separately. Though there are obviously better ways to achieve the same effect

I would definitely miss it, it gives the text a much-needed polish. Besides, I think it's futile to try to aim for consistency between browsers anyway

Often, the first thing I have to do when I visit a website is either try to locate the language toggle, or edit the language code in the URL, or use the translation function in the browser as most websites pick the wrong language 🥲
It's like none of these websites read the Accept-Language header
