Bad Bunny: Transforming Global Latino Visibility
This week on Capacitando.org, we’re highlighting the work and cultural impact of Bad Bunny—an artist whose music, style, and public presence continue to challenge expectations and expand what global visibility can look like for Latino, Hispano, and Chicanx communities. As he prepares to take the halftime stage, we’re hopeful that this moment will shine not only for him, but for an entire community that has long shaped popular culture while rarely being centered on its biggest platforms.

Unlocking Comprehension: Why Morpheme Awareness Matters for High School Readers
Understanding the Challenge: “They Can Read. They Just Don’t Understand It.” Many secondary teachers have experienced the frustration Ana Gibson describes in her 2023 dissertation: students can sound out the words in a text, but they still don’t seem to grasp what they’ve read. Her work, “They Can Read. They Just Don’t Understand It”, pinpoints a key problem—students are often missing the vocabulary knowledge and comprehension strategies necessary to make meaning from academic texts.

This week, as I taught my Ethnic Studies course, we discussed the terms Latino, Hispano, and Chicanx. Ultimately, the discussion landed on the idea that one may find the term that fits on their own. I encouraged my students to understand what each term actually means, to make an informed decision.
