There are many influences that I yoinked over time but the major ones are ghost-type pokemon for visuals, the SCP foundation for the cryptid research facility (the name Trigono is even a ref), and the song The Howling by Within Temptation which created the pocket world Dismeil

Okay I rambled enough

If anyone wants to know the actual inspiration for Verdant, the major one that created his character was the Twilight Zone episode called "It's a Good Life." I was actually so frustrated with how the episode went that I made a whole new guy about it. Spite is a pretty powerful creative tool

It's fine though. I'm more able to derail discussions than I used to be. 💪 And it's also not as common now that I changed the visuals of his powers from transparent to shadowy and wispy. And I'm honestly much happier with that too from a visual standpoint. Uncanny to see him without a tail though

There's an anime that many assume to be an inspiration for Verdant's story and powers, and I definitely see why.... Verdant's abilities manifest as ghostly arms. Just sucks that when I checked it out, it was VERY much not for me and I hate thinking about the topics in it when I see his old art

WELL I guess it's because there is art of him that is older than the show, but the toyhouse profile was made a year after the show came out so unless people do some digging they might not notice

Oh no it's not horror in general, my story that gets compared a lot is pretty horror-focused. It's a specific piece of media (a 2003 anime), which was listed as an inspiration for Stranger Things and another thing people were recommending for the exact same reasons but it had specific triggers

I was a little bit wary since there's really only 1 single piece of media my stuff gets compared to that I'd rather just entirely forget exists, and Stranger Things happens to have this thing as an inspiration and it even has homages to it. But I checked content warnings for S1 and it seems alright

Oh yeah the act of comparing isn't the part that would annoy me, just if I ended up annoyed by the media content then I would get reminders of it and be like oh right that exists 😒

I'll try season 1 though, from what I've heard/been told that's what people associate with my character/setting anyway

Oh dear... That's so disappointing.. A few people keep recommending it to me because I apparently have similar themes in my work but eeehhhhh I don't want to end up being annoyed by the comparisons if I watch it and hate it

Yeah 😭 two different people called Daliel ugly. The first time I think they meant it in an endearing way, the second person was REALLY high ... but still I'm not a fan of it
