Happy Int'l Day of Women & Girls in Science! 👩‍🔬 The #HBTransform Leadership voyage to Antarctica with 120 women & non-binary STEMM leaders has been deeply inspiring, but my 💙 breaks for my US friends facing ignorance threatening research. At least at Palmer Station, it was still science as usual.

Super proud of #TeamSBS & friends for this awesome #PreprintFriday drop! 👇 Keep scrolling to learn about a mixed-methods approach for exploring what kids of different reading levels want in a robot reading companion 👀📕🤖 Kudos to @natecaruana.bsky.social, @ryssamoffat.bsky.social & Hannah!

🧑‍🎨🤖📚 We invited children with different reading levels to design their own reading robot companions – and what did we learn?

New preprint: “It’ll cheer you on!” Children with and without reading difficulty value robot reading companions that are smart, supportive, and personal

Awesome to see these data from my PhD (collected many, many moons ago!) provide the grist for this super interesting new analysis- I certainly learned something new about participants‘ performance of this task! 🪢🪢🪢🪢🪢🪢🪢🪢🪢

This was a tremendous event on every level- the quality of research showcased, the thoughtfulness & accessibility of the science narrative for a diverse group of participants, the curation of participant artworks, the setting AND the snacks! Perfection in community science form! Kudos, Ryssa! 👏🧠🔦🍷🇨🇭💙

Things are hotting up with the Cold Water Cognition crew! ❄️❄️❄️ First snowfall meant this week’s Limmat dip featured ethereal city snowscapes for our aesthetic pleasure as we swam along! I’m sure there’s a study to be done about not feeling as cold (/miserable) when immersed in a winter wonderland!
