Ha, good to know for the future on the burnt ridge. I haven’t had a gage yet, but I’m really looking forward to it! A French friend of mine recommended it, and I think I’d heard you talk about them too. They were also grown at Mt Vernon and Monticello, so I know they’ll grow well for me.

Just bought the imperial epineuse from raintree! Burnt ridge had it for less, but they were almost suspiciously cheap. Thank for helping me think this through!

We’re not really a jam household (I made wine with my excess peaches last year instead of preserves) so I’m thinking a prune plum that will be mostly eaten and baked, with maybe a little drying or winemaking. I need to see what does well in VA, but are there any varietals you like?

I’d be honored, but I told myself I would learn to graft two years ago and just haven’t done it. Now with the baby I’m admitting defeat and want to plant a ready made tree. My gage is already blooming, and its so sad watching it not set fruit each spring.

The trees of antiquity French plum and Coes golden drop both look appealing, but I’m really shopping around for price right now.

I’m attempting to espalier (poorly) so a semi-dwarfing or dwarfing rootstock would be good. Although the Grow a Little Fruit Tree book got in my head about dwarfing rootstock being bad for tree health, so I’m inclined to do summer pruning to control size.

So I’m in VA and want a pollinator for this guy, so a late blooming European plum. I’m only buying one, which is why the shipping costs is so rough.

A mini highland cow would look cute as heck with the garden and the wattle fence.

Instead of trying to seal every leak, could you create positive pressure in their room with filtered air? Might be tough to tell which filters work for tear gas though. Alternatively, child sized gas masks do exist.

This article gives a $115M cumulative amount, which I assume is nowhere near sufficient to truly compensate the victims. hanoitimes.vn/usaid-expand...

If you’re curious, USAID did fund disability support programs in Vietnam for many years. I head that it was essentially to help people disabled by agent orange and other effects of the war, but that the US wouldn’t name agent orange specifically for legal/diplomatic reasons.

Ricotta is a solid base. Go simple with olive oil salt and pepper, jazz it up with zatar and pickled onions, etc.

We couldn’t do this when I worked at the Container Store many years ago, and we were would bend over backwards for customers, so I’m going to say it’s unlikely. Maybe with some kind of specialized inventory and POS systems.

This pops up on the baking and cookie/cake decorating subs too. Anyone remotely good must be lying for karma.

Why are some people more prone to colds than others? In the same household of generally healthy adults, one gets sick at the drop of a hat, the other goes years without a sniffle. Can cold-prone people improve their lot, or is all immune boosting quackery?

I love the Daniel Burnham quote on this. People need something to fight for, and our political imagination affects our actions which affect our world in a virtuous cycle.
