This is a really solid and deep question.
I have some suggested reasons but they require a bit of hand holding to get to, as most people don't have the priors to follow along otherwise

The japanese use something like this in their instant meals sometimes. I wouldn't call it electro-chemical, but it's chemical.

Really good question that's often handwaved by 'boson/fermion' thinking.
It seems somewhat like a magnetically-bound state between two electrons that can be maintained by the right lattice potential. Even then, questions remain.
