Curious about how wild animals express emotion through sound — but not sure where to begin?

If you’re a researcher, student, or animal behavior enthusiast ready to rethink what we hear when animals "vocalize," start here.
The ring-tailed coatis (Nasua nasua) chirp, squeal, and bark their way through the forests and parks of Brazil. They’re expressive, curious, and often misunderstood — especially when it comes to their vocalizations.
From Squeals to Self-Care: Understanding the Emotional Expressions of Coatis
How coatis use squeals, touch, and even soaps to express emotion and connect with each other

The ability to mimic sounds could be extremely common among corvids. Here, it has been found in 39 species (30%), but it is predicted that it could be present in around 82% of them.
