Book 14 of 2026: "How to Survive a Horror Story" by Mallory Arnold. Couldn't decide whether it was horror or comedy or gorefest or psychological thriller or or or... I think Arnold has a good book in her, but this wasn't it. ⭐⭐⭐/5

Book 13 of 2026: "Brimstone" by Callie Hart. I beg of you, if you are picking for a book club in its third month, do not pick the second book of a series of 600-page books. Every goddamn chapter of this thing introduced something that I think I was supposed to know from the first book. nfm/5

We watched "What's in the Box?" on Netflix because I like Neil Patrick Harris and 10yo likes game shows and it was a pleasant diversion of an evening.

The big prize was $300K in Bitcoin.

Book 12 of 2026: “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” by Rufi Thorpe. What an absolute goddamn delight. Can’t wait for the AppleTV adaptation this spring. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Good lord, what a waste of literally everyone involved "Homefront" was, and I'm including Sylvester Stallone. 0⭐/5

Book 11 of 2026: “I Will Kill Your Imaginary Friend for $200” by Robert Brockway. A masterpiece, but what I will remember is 10yo looking at the cover and saying “Well, I’d do it for $20.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Book 10 of 2026: “For We Are Many” by Dennis E. Taylor. Holy damn, what a follow-up. This is getting good. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Book 9 of 2026: “A Brief History of the World in 47 Borders” by @jonnelledge.bsky.social. A drier—but still very fun—version of my first book this year. Absolutely ideal for enjoying and mulling over a chapter or two at a time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Book 8 of 2026: "The Grapples of Wrath" by @abeewords.bsky.social. Fun story whose only flaw is that it includes my least favorite mystery trope. ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Book 7 of 2026: “The Haunting of Camp Winter Falcon” by Jonathan Raab. It takes weird horror to truly capture the experience of being out of the military and trying to figure out what comes next. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Book 6 of 2026: “We Are Legion (We Are Bob)” by Dennis E. Taylor. Super fun Weir/Frankowski style competence porn. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

The final kindness we can provide our animal companions is preventing the pain and confusion of inevitable decline. French Fries was a good cat.

Book 5 of 2026: “The Man With a Thousand Faces” by Lex Tenboom. Always seemed like it was about to get twisty but never really did. The Deca Tapes was better. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

"Nobody 2" was inoffensively, dementedly, unrealistically fun. If you like "Bob Odenkirk wearily beats the shit out of many, many, many goons, and his family gets their turns to be badasses too", then this is the movie. ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
