🛰️ Using #SatelliteData from 1981-today, we track how #snow brightens and #melt darkens the #ice.

❄️ As part of #LIQUIDICE, an autumn campaign was carried out on #HansGlacier #Spitsbergen.

⚠️ Since the late 1980s, its mass balance has been monitored as clearly negative.

💦 The glacier loses about 1.5 m of #water equivalent yearly.

🔬 First LIQUIDICE paper out now!

A new study in Applied Geomatics presents an automated method to classify glacier radar profiles, no manual digitizing needed. Tested on Hansbreen (Svalbard), the results show complete loss of its cold surface layer (2007-2021).
