At #HRC60 we express our concern about the ongoing security challenges, political instability & humanitarian crises in Somalia. We welcome Somalia's efforts to meet its human rights obligations, incl by setting up the long-overdue National Independent Human Rights Commission.

In #CAR civilians are the primary victims of abuses by all parties, incl by Wagner mercenaries. Their withdrawal is indispensable for lasting peace and for improving the humanitarian situation. We welcome the April 2025 peace accord & call for inclusive elections in Dec 2025.

The situation in Haiti is very grave - gang violence, sexual violence, child recruitment. 🇪🇺 supports security in compliance w human rights, imposes sanctions against gang leaders & provides hum aid. We urge 🇭🇹pol actors to take responsibility for a democratic transition. #HRC60

At #HRC60, the EU underlined the need for a new consensus on reparatory justice. The Durban Declaration provides a framework to move forward. We acknowledge the immense suffering caused by slavery and colonialism and their legacy of racism that still persists today.

New & emerging technologies must comply with intl human rights & humanitarian law. At #HRC60 the 🇪🇺 underlined that human judgment & accountability must always prevail - incl. in the military use of AI - to ensure responsible, rights-based innovation.

We strongly condemn any form of reprisals against HRDs & civil society organizations, incl those who cooperate with the UN. States must ensure their protection, offline & online. The number of reported acts of intimidation & reprisal remains disturbingly high. #HRC60

At #HRC60 we raised risks of human rights abuses in extractive industries such as mining. The number of Environmental & Land Human Rights Defenders killed every year is abhorrent. Many were defending Indigenous Peoples’ rights, as mining projects are often near or on their land.

At #HRC60 we reiterated the 🇪🇺 commitment to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Their knowledge of ecosystems & sustainable use offers solutions to protect & restore our environment and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
