Kis Kürt (Little Horn) Borozó, Budapest 🇭🇺

1st visit.
Eye-opening place. Lift up enough rocks...!

Wine on tap for 44p per 200ml. Basic but better than typical UK house wine.
Various Commie holdout décor.

Guys on their work lunch grabbing a beer. Prehistoric toilets.

Last afternoon in Budapest 🇭🇺 before the plane.

2nd visit to the wonderful Matra Borozó, a place that by rights shouldn't be here in 2025, but due to pure stubbornness and perseverance, they endure.

Golya Presszó, Budapest 🇭🇺 1st visit. Long overdue visit to this cultural centre, terrace, complex and post-Ruin Bar hangout. It really steps into the breach after so many similar closures. Monthly events, nice local beers in bottles, social initiatives. Great place!! Easy tram from Bláha Lujza Ter👍🍻

Hangulat, Budapest 🇭🇺 1st visit. Adventure to the outer district Óhegy. Gorgeous boozer with a leafy beer garden and a trove of plate signs inside. Bakalář pivo on tap, Borozó type wine options. Nice old heaters. Impressive. Easy to reach by tram. Near the craft brewery area 🍻👍

Rengeteg RomKafé, Budapest 🇭🇺 1st visit. Teddy-strewn🧸'ruin café'. Friendly guy preparing hot chocolate and coffee, which can be boozed up (kirsch, anyone?)

Is it a bar? A bit of a push...maybe? Worth it for the highly peculiar set-up, anyway 👍

Paris, Texas, Budapest 🇭🇺 1st visit. 1990s bar that revitalised a woebegone street. Antique family photos donated by the local community, basement pool room. A last gen place but a reason to still give the respect where it's due 👍🍻

6:3, Budapest 🇭🇺 1st visit. Iconic England v Hungary football match and Ferenc Puskas commemorated in this upright but enjoyable bar with nice service and free snacks. Primátor beer on draft. ⚽🍻👍

Cafe Zsivago, Budapest 🇭🇺 1st visit. It was time for a change of style. Beautiful antiquey café bar with friendly service and a loungey atmosphere that persuades you to linger. Prices pretty good for the centre. Piano playing. English style porter delicious 🍻👍

Villanyí Borozó, Budapest 🇭🇺 1st visit. A very central location for such an unassuming pub. An old Borozó which nowadays appears to be more of a rock pub, though wine is still front and centre on the menu. Fair prices for the area, an unpretentious hangout. 🎶👍🍻

Mátra Borozó, Budapest 🇭🇺 1st visit.

Fantastic throwback Borozó minutes from Fisherman's Bastion. Think Spanish tapas bar Hungarian style. Wines from 200ft/dl is insane in 2025. Not trash either. Beers from Svijany and Primátor too. Old Guy in a white kitchen smock serving 👍🍷

Két Korsó, Budapest 🇭🇺 1st visit. Enjoyable kneipe near the bizarre 90s Deco of Lehel Market.

Dark, dark old little boozer with 1000ft beer (£2.10), classic rock soundtrack, attractive curved bar and central table. 👍🍻

While enjoying the night out I was horrified to learn from locals the further closures of remaining Ruin Pubs this year.

The Ruin Bar scene obviously peaked a long time ago but we are now close to its death.

Tücsök Sörkert, Budapest 🇭🇺 1st visit. Warm, cosy little kocsma with woodstrip interior and heated patio. Formerly a boozer but a few pub grub dishes on show lately.

Korona Kisvendeglo, Budapest 🇭🇺 1st visit. Shown around the city by a local, Kocsmaturista, this evening. Classic ancient basement bar with long serving owner. Birthday stuff being packed away. Every trinket has a back story. And the ceiling penis story was insane. Cheap,cheerful, characterful👍🍺

Kaleidoskop, Esztergom 🇭🇺 1st visit. Wow, it's been a trek to finally get here and it has not disappointed. Culture Centre, set in historic buildings with vaults leading into genuine caves where live music is performed. So close to missing this, so proud to be here 🎶 🍺👍

Due to a flight 🛫 diversion from Leeds to Manchester we got to Štúrovo 🇸🇰 & Esztergom 🇭🇺 7 hours late. Awful day of travel.

But there was time to go to a couple of bars. They were both really good!
