Some thoughts on what’s happened to Blake Lively.

We see the same campaigns, designed to smear, dehumanise and to incite hate, against so many - including the trans+ community and those seeking asylum. We must be united and intersectional in our fight for liberation.
⚠️ CW: Discusses abuse and male violence against women ⚠️ In the past 24hrs, I’ve seen so many hateful comments about Blake Lively, comparing her to Amber Heard, Taylor Swift and Evan Rachel Wood, amongst others. Some of the comments were from men. No surprise there. A lot of the comments were from women, tearing into Blake and siding with Justin Baldoni. Why? Because he was a feminist. Because he advocated for women and deconstructed toxic masculinity in a TED talk. On the flip side, Blake just “wasn’t a nice person”. Let’s remember that abusers don’t walk around with it written on the shirt nor have a sign above their head. Justin has weaponised feminism to his own advantage, positioning himself as an ally, hiding in plain sight. Yes, his TED talk was powerful. Yes, he spoke up for women. But the receipts show he instructed a PR team to bury Blake. Even without the receipts, the fact that Justin and the studio agreed to Blake’s request for additional safeguarding to protect herself and the crew, should be enough. The fact that nearly all the other actors and crew distanced themselves from Justin, even whilst filming, should be enough. The fact Justin hired the same PR strategist who worked for Johnny Depp and Drake, specialising in controversy and public image issues, should be enough. But instead, we are seeing a split, as some women continue to defend Justin, refusing to acknowledge they’ve been duped. Refusing to accept what so many people close to him, have been saying about him for a while now, and denying the messages which oversee the manufactured smear campaign against Blake. How are they falling for the same thing over and over? How many more women need to speak out before they accept that men are the root cause? In a world where women are facing continued abuse and violence at the hands of men, where we’ve all just witnessed a trial that highlighted the horrific facts of how a woman was drugged by her own husband and abuse by at least 83 men, we are seei…

Rather than focus on a teeny tiny percentage of trans+ athletes, maybe he should focus on *actual* inequality in sport such as:
- Pay gap
- Access to facilities
- Playing conditions
- Kit inequality
- Lack of access to sport
