I cleaned up my studio, since I’m done with dark clay for a second. Thought it might be fun to share my tools.

I made a new big buddie with an egg. Hopefully *this one* makes it through the bisque!

And the end, anything that is left in the crucible gets poured into ingot trays.
@benhollis.net took all these videos, btw. I tend to be so bad at filming myself, so it was great to get these from him.

The results were incredible. Beautiful colors and pots throughout.

We finish the firing at 52 hours, with cone 12’s down throughout. We sealed it up tight for reduction cooling, which starves it of oxygen and it cools to get nice colors and crystals. It also makes flames shoot out everywhere, and you have to patch the flaming holes with clay.

We just finished up the 6th firing of my train kiln. It was a delight. It was also a lot. I knew that the one thing my 80yr old mother wanted for her birthday was to come help, so she did!

If I’m sculpting for bronze casting, I might cut a sculpture in half, to make mold making easier.
I’ve been too lazy to melt my most recent beast, since I’d have to pull out its tinfoil center before microwaving it. However, I think I’ve found a new home for my bisected beast!

Finished a beast on Monday, but forgot to post it. Definitely in the final stretch for my wood firing.

I start with two ~12lb pinch pots, then connect them to make a giant egg. Each part is hollow, and somewhat stiff, when I connect it.
Here’s a photo of attaching a leg. I didn’t have a photo of making the giant pinch pots, so I’ll try and make a video of it later.

I’m happy with how this big beast is going. By tomorrow, it’ll be dry enough to start smoothing it.

I made a couple of large planters for some bog plants. The idea is the outer cauldron shape will hold a nice large reservoir of water for the inner pot to sit in, while slowing evaporation.
I realized it would be a bit tight to refill the water, which inspired the “pour spouts” on either side!

I have 14(!?) types of clay in my studio right now. My goal, before I get started sculpting for my next firing, is to use some of them up!
