As my first Bluesky post, I am happy to share my moss photo (the beautiful exotic Campylopus introflexus) on the cover of the newest @journalofecology.bsky.social issue! 🌱 Here is our paper, on bryophyte and vascular plant affinity to forest microclimate: doi.org/10.1111/1365...

Have a look at what my brother found in the forest this morning! Mosses, ferns... Is this not the most beautiful trash ever? 🍾
A green glass bottle left behind on the forest floor, with moss and ferns thriving inside, moss even bursting out of the bottle Same mossy bottle, this time held by a human hand. It's a small beer bottle, now a miniature greenhouse

The beauty of trees as lidar point clouds... 3D pixel art 🌳 🧊
Here, an oak forest stand from the North of France, with a dense understory. Voxelised with AMAPVox @umramap.bsky.social, from our terrestrial lidar scans!
@jonlen.bsky.social #EDYSAN @terschki.bsky.social
A forest stand visualized as 3D pixels, or "voxels", extracted on a 20 by 20 m square. It is dense, but the different tree stems are easy to distinguish. Voxels are colored by height, from dark blue near the ground to light green in the top of the canopy (24 m height maximum).

"Show me your sensor and I'll tell you who you are! "
In our studies on #microclimate we often wonder about the best technical solution.
It's hard to make a choice... 🤔
Here some systems used or which will be evaluated.
Don't hesitate to follow our past and future studies!

Did you ever see Glass Gem corn? Yes, these are natural colors from real corn! 🌈🌽 This variety was selected in the 80s by a farmer in Oklahoma, who crossed ancestral breeds. My aunt has grown this variety, and though you can ear it as popcorn 🍿, I instead made earrings out of the jewel-like seeds!

🌿 We need to raise the profile of #bryophyte ecological research 🌿 (and also a bryophyte emoji!)

In this opinion piece, we as a group of #ECRs outline barriers in bryophyte research and provide recommendations to overcome them across institutional levels & disciplines.

#4 - Microclimate, an important part of ecology and biogeography

A publication highlight of the year! This milestone from the SoilTemp community, driven by those united at the MEB conference, showcases why the era of global microclimate research is here
Microclimate, an important part of ecology and biogeography
From the first days of SoilTemp, we had the ambition to turn this project into more than ‘just a database’. SoilTemp could become the much-needed glue to stick together microclimate eco…
