Like, for me, it's hard to take "he's the top 3 right now" when he's not really pushing himself at all. He's a good rapper, ESPECIALLY on features, but when he does an album it's like he has nothing to compete with so he just kinda...gets it done, I guess.

But I would never describe myself as a Cole fan, so mileage may vary. I haven't loved one of his albums since Forest Hill and all the albums following I thought were either fine or bad, tbh. So I'm sure Cole fans probably like this, but it all sounds static. No growth since 2014 is crazy.

It works a LOT better the more and more divorced it gets from trying to be an allegory for mental illness, imo. That theme fell incredibly flat for me at the end of the first movie, but being a manifestation of pressure along with the much better cinematography made this a franchise worth following
