Mood.
Just today, from my city apartment windows/while waiting for my tram, I have seen a hawfinch, two swans (flying super low), a kestrel (chased by gulls), and a pair of semi-amorous collared doves. That's not counting the usual visitors: pigeons, tits, sparrows.

TW dental surgery

So, back in 2021 I had a tooth taken out to the sounds of Blank Space, which I thought was on the nose.

Yesterday I went back to the same dentist's office, and had a different dental surgeon take another one out.

To Dua Lipa's Houdini.

The best sunset photo I have caught in ages. Beautiful weather we're having: consistently below zero, some sun every day, snow. Almost like a winter of my youth.

The onslaught of AI slop in jigsaws is horrifying. Awful ugly stuff and yet people seem to be buying given that there are entire companies that only offer that kind of shit?

It's all horribly dispiriting.

The last book I finished in 2025 was Kerstin Hall's Asunder (deliciously bloody), and I started the year by reading five different books side by side, but the one I am the most into rn is my re-reading of We Could Be So Good, which is the paper equivalent of chocolate with a pinch of chili.
What was the last book you read/were reading in 2025 & what is the 1st of 2026?

I decided to close out last year by starting the We Will Rise Again anthology, which means @rblemberg.bsky.social 's story was the thing I read before spending midnight battling fireworks with Zim. Continuing it today.

Achievement: he survived 2025. We don't have a 100% diagnosis, bc once we got to the "other things now excluded, time for explo surgery to test for cancer" point, his bloodwork counterindicated invasive procedures, but all signs point to lymphoma. He is, so far, doing *great* on chemo. V. improved.

The year started with a very decent cup of pourover coffee and what may have been a hawfinch visiting the trees outside the window. May 2026 be better than 2025.

As every year, wife&I spent the Eve doing our bullet journale and keeping our four cats company. Fave tv/film/music/books below.

Mindfulness. Or an adhd symptom thing. (I spent a significant amount of time doing the beach and the sea part of the puzzle today.)

Me starting the Buffy & Angel complete rewatch: yeah, I bet this has aged for me and also kind of watched it so much back then it can't really be a big deal this time around.

Me, watching Buffy s6/7 and Angel s4: screaming, crying, laughing, saying the line before the characters get to it.

Some cats clearly thrive on being fed 3x night on top of the regular 6x a day.

(Tiny plates only.)

(Cancer patient needs to be accommodated for his appetite, but still. What a beloved asshole.)

17 years together with Wife today \o/

To celebrate, our cats didn't let us sleep, which is appropriate because 17 years ago we were also awake from all the Emotions (and woken up by family dog who wanted into the room out of the room back into the room).

Waiting for someone to post about whether the gay hockey romance is pro-Russian or sensitive to the issue, so far seeing nothing either way.

(Not on streaming here either way, but I'm curious.)

Sometimes I just think about how much I wish sb wrote books in the same niche as Jean Auel but without all the ways it fails the vibe check on consent, creepiness, racism etc.

Willing this into existence.

Cherishing all the moments together. I love the chirpy hrrrmph he makes when wife or I approach him. Such a treasure of a cat.

I was lukewarm on s1 of A Man on the Inside but inhaled s2. I'm a sucker for rl couples playing love interests or nemeses. The vibes were immaculate, new cast was great, setting was compelling, I want three more seasons.

Wydatki budżetu sięgają wg szacunków 8-9 mld zł rocznie, a przychody z podatków i składek, jakie płacą Ukraińcy, dają nawet 17 mld zł.

TW pet illness, cancer, death

Mamut our darling has been dxed with a likely aggressive form of lymphoma (due to his poor rbc we were advised against running more invasive tests). His prognosis is poor if vague. Yet he seems fine - his perceptible symptoms are mild, and could easily be missed.

His royal cattenness, Mamut.

Can't do a full Camerimage experience this year because (on top of work existing) Mamut is having an existential crisis (sudden worsening of separation anxiety manifesting in IBD flareups) but we saw Raptures (2025) and we loved it.
