When I read The Road Less Traveled by M Scott Peck, I learned things that I struggle to remember: that that life is difficult, that you can't avoid pain, and that trying to avoid pain creates and prolongs suffering. The only way out is through. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS_f...

When my husband and I are asked about our goals for our disabled adult kids, our answer is always, "that they never have to sleep under a bridge." I want so much more for them than that - but that is the bottom line.

I hadn't read it before, and it is a fabulous essay. And the thing is, it never ends. My adult disabled kids regularly have to prove that they are still disabled. One of them has an ALJ hearing next week. The fear, every time: what if you don't seem disabled enough? What then?

Oh, this brings so many memories. None of them good.

What else can I tell you about the book? It's St. Nicholas Eve. Elizabeth and Catherine and their families are Orthodox Christians. Elizabeth is an ambulatory wheelchair user. She's spending the night with her best friend because her parents have to head out of town to check on Elizabeth's Nana.

We have ham for Christmas, because I need a meaty ham bone for the black-eyed peas for New Years.

It is my understanding that Georgia doesn't allow people to run for one elected office while holding a different office. They have to resign before they can run. So I want to know if MTG is going to run for Senate or Governor.

I wish the reporter had done a better job with this. Ms. Graham found the former evangelical right wing fringe of Orthodoxy and mistook it for the heart and soul.

I don't think it was meant to suggest any particular role for psychotherapy in religion - the therapist/marriage counselor was just there to signify a breakdown in a formerly close relationship between Christ and the Church.

I did as you suggested, and jotted down what I thought this cartoon was saying "married couple - Christ and the Church/bride - getting marriage counseling - Church recognizes she has become estranged from her spouse" - close to your second thought in your post.
