The cinematography being largely handheld feels out of place. There’s all these close up, lingering shots of young Trump with ominous music like he’s a goddamn bogeyman. There’s no substance to this movie’s subject and that’d be an interesting ethos if they’d committed to that.

It’s frustrating because there really is an interesting story in this about power and corruption, possibly framing it as the downfall of one era of Republicanism power in Cohn against the rise in a 21st century Republicanism in Trump. It just doesn’t commit (3/)

There’s so much that this movie had going for it- the set design, the score, the cast. But the bedrock is entirely built on Orange Man Bad platitudes from rich liberals who despise his aesthetics but don’t face material harm from his administration (2/)

I wish I liked this knives out movie a lot more than I did but the supporting cast just didn’t meet the standards of the last two and the actual solving of the mystery felt more based around convenient confessions than anything else.

Will say from my experience of going from a Baltimore-Edgewater commute job to one that’s close to my house in the city, the benefit of the hours you get back from not commuting is such a life upgrade. My mental health improved drastically from that alone.

Super 8 (2011). Perfectly serviceable sci fi movie and for some reason I watched it constantly in middle school. It’s not groundbreaking or anything but I’m surprised I never see it talked about positively, if at all. Way better movie than anything JJ Abrams has done since.
