I've run it old school BRP, but also a much more preferable Savage Worlds version (and played both).

I keep waiting to see the novels cheap, because I'm not sure where I've put my originals 😂

If it's not Original Series, it's all cosplaying.

Sounds like you're having a nice family trip. Had covid changed "us"? Again, it depends... For me no. I do know some people that don't go out as much though.

Dragonmeet has become more infrequent for me, is it costs a lot, the trains are frequently bad and the gaming is variable at best. I can also buy everything online. So the value proposition isn't there. If I lived closer or some other factors changed, maybe it would be worth it? It depends! 😁 /end

For me the value proposition looks like "Are you taking the proverbial?" because it's a lot of time and money for virtually no return.

So, it depends. If you like comic shopping trips to find weird, rare issues maybe it's good? For gaming cons though, a bit part is joining in as you say. 3/x

I think it was £15 a ticket or something and was basically an NEC hall sparsely populated with stalls and a handful of guests. He basically queued for ages to get a signed (and paid for) photo of the nice lady who plays a Bejoran (sp?) and was delighted with this use of time and money 2/x

Well, it all starts with the organisers providing an Invitation To Treat and ends with punters deciding if they got a value proposition 😁

At one particular Expo there was also a comicon thing happening and one of my friends wanted to go. He took a "day off" expo to go and do that. 1/x

They are quite an unusual push your luck mechanic, but I reckon after you D watched a bit of us rolling dice it'll all make sense pretty quick. 😁

"Judge" for yourself. I see what you did there!

Are they likely to interact with other people who do D&D? If so they'll benefit from the new one. If they're going to stay in their own group there's an argument for doing what's easiest. There is a risk of someone not getting what everyone else gets when they ask for D&D

You can get The Bone Alchemist on sale right now ;)

Lots of fun times and NPC pointers etc. Exploring the inside of a decaying sea beast, riding a giant turtle. It's all fun and games until the necromancer turns up.

I don't think it's a big hobby at all. It's bigg-er than it was, but still tiny. 😁

The old test was walking into WH Smith and seeing the multitude of magazines for fishing, model trains or knitting and being lucky to find a White Dwarf or Dragon at best for RPGs.

We're still niche 🙂

That was my first thought too, wind it back another decade for the British version.

And 100x more people now taking up tennis meaning there's a metric funk ton more tennis clubs and people to play with, and shops selling things I want related to my hobby etc. etc.

Other--more sensible--long time fans delighted the hobby has a massive new audience and is in rude health. More variety, huge amounts of content, loads more gamers. CR and others have been a real shot in the arm!

All the new vibes and people have basically enriched the hobby and finally put an end to the previously perennial and tedious raft of "RPGs are dying out" arguments that were ubiquitous. Old grogs can continue to have an embarrassment of riches in terms of rpgs due to the vast cohort interested now.

Of course this post might have worked better with #Daggerheart as a tag, but lets leave the OP for science... 😁

First up, you don't owe anybody anything (despite what George R R Martin fans might say).

A lot of indie creators literally just churn out game after game (although they're tightly focused on a Thing). Other craft a community around their core.

Publishing itself is the win, extras are a bonus.
