Our new work (bit.ly/4nlB0RU) demonstrates how environmental cue reliability can drive the evolution of adaptive maternal effect plasticity. We evolved nematodes in random environments and populations receiving a reliable cue adapted to an otherwise unpredictable environment.

There is still time to register for the coziest, chat by the fire with your colleagues sort of EcoEvo conference, the @asn-amnat.bsky.social meeting in Asilomar, California. The meeting is Jan 3-6, 2025, and you still have a few weeks (until Dec 1) to get your abstracts in!

It is 4 pm pacific time, which means the cats have been eagerly awaiting the closing of the refrigerator signaling the food bowls are about to be revealed.
two cats striding intently and hopefully towards the camera. The cats are similar looking green-eyed tabbies with grey and black stripes. A cat water bowl and window is in the background.

I'm excited to give an @asn-amnat.bsky.social Early Career Investigator talk at #Evol2024! Come check out the award talk session on Sunday from 4:15-5:45pm (Rm 516C) to learn about what I've been up to during my postdoc and what my lab will be working on now that it's open!
First slide of my talk titled "Understanding the speciation process through phenotypes, genotypes, and behavior." The slide includes my name (Stepfanie Aguillon), my email (aguillon@ucla.edu), and my lab website (www.stepfanieaguillon.com). Additionally my adorable lab logo which includes a flicker and a swordtail growing out of a DNA strand is included.

I am OVER THE MOON that our paper is out at Am Nat today!

We find phylogeny & biogeographic contingency shape functional diversity in cichlid radiations.

It's my first as co-first author, & Chris Martinez was an A+ co-lead. We had an amazing team-I am so proud of this work!

An image of a figure from the manuscript. The figure depicts a principal components analysis as a scatterplot demonstrating the axes of diversity of feeding kinematics among cichlids fishes. The Neotropical cichlids are very diverse, and access unique regions of kinematic space, while the distribution of kinematics among Lake Tanganyikan cichlids fully encompasses the younger radiation of Lake Malawi cichlids, and likewise, the distribution of kinematics of Lake Malawi cichlids fully encompasses the younger radiation from Lake Victoria.

Prime Day, Schmime Day. Hey, listen, indie bookstores are out there being awesome every day. And they tend to ship directly to you, even if you're not local to the store. They're where the books live! And booksellers are book wizards! Bonafide bibliomancers fast with the recommendations.
