I heard an American historian recently mention that the concept of “freedom” to the founding fathers and definitely to the right-wing/conservative political movements all along has ALWAYS only meant the “freedom to oppress others without consequence”. And now I can’t un-hear it. It’s 💯 true.

Good faith question: I keep hearing this sentiment, but can't figure out why anyone would want this, maybe I'm missing something tho? We KNOW putting our hopes & trust into a central figure always goes south- through corruption or assassination. Shouldn't we be striving for a decentralized mvmt?
