If you’ve not lived there, you don’t know how cold Perth houses are in winter… world’s most expensive tents 🤦♂️ OTOH, I have never had warmer winters than when I lived in Canada! So pleasant!!

Ask my Canadian boss who learned to dive in Cold Lake (apparently name is accurate). First few years diving in Australia he wore 3mm shorty wetsuits; by the time I dove with him it was 2x 5mm with a thick hood and he was cold!

It depends how long you’ve acclimatised for. When you live in Montreal, Toronto winter feels a bit meh, but Winnipeg is definitely the real deal; I’ve worn shorts and t-shirt in a Perth winter when everyone else is wearing coats. But if you live there long enough….

Perth is colder than the number though; it’s frequently very windy in winter and quite damp. It‘s not uncommon to see people wearing puffer jackets in winter these days.

If we’re short on people (which we are not), there are tons of excellent people from elsewhere who would love to move here. Anyone who cares what colour they are or what religion they are or whatever is just a weirdo.

I looked at this world as a teenager and could not imagine why someone would think it was a good idea to bring more people into it.
And nothing has changed (if anything, 13 year old me was very clearly correct). Worried about birth rates? Yeah, me too, they’re way too high.

I once moved and they found a mummified mouse, a real one! Must’ve died and dried out while I was away over summer (house was not insulated at all and very hot in summer). I gave it to the ant nest in the front garden!

We should make it socially acceptable not to have children; young childless couples report getting harassed by people in the street (!). And free contraception, all types, so children can be carefully planned. All family structures are ok, including childless.

Was walking In a track with a friend, looking at an interesting fungus, when 3 noisy youfs on bikes rode past. When they saw what we were looking at, they stopped, hopped off their bikes and spent a few minutes with us, talking about the fungus and making exclamations of wonder

As I recall, US immigration officers have always revelled in their right to be rude… oh hang on, they’re saying people have the right to be rude to officers? Hah! lol, that has never been a thing in practice. Even in the times it was safe to travel to the US, they were tiny kings 😂

As a small white woman, I’ve travelled alone (touristed?) in South America, Asia, Europe and the US. I’ve taken the subway late at night in New York and wandered around Washington DC alone. Small town places in the US with 4 churches and no pubs were the only places I felt unsafe
