Cheaper car insurance in particular is great with so many folks struggling

If you'd like to benefit, do let your councillors know 📃📤

Let's talk 20.

There is fantastic evidence coming out of Wales after 2 years of 20mph - reduced demand on the NHS, reduction in injuries, deaths, even reduced car insurance premiums now as fewer small vehicle damage claims are being made.

If you want to read more there's some good stuff linked in the Cabinet papers here:

Bizarrely Exeter was initially excluded as not a parish council, but this has been picked up by Exeter councillor Michael Mitchell and it is hoped this will change.

DCC has previously dragged its feet over 20mph - allocating paltry sums & rationing 20mph for communities. Thanks to Cllr Jackie Hodgson more communities will be able to have 20mph. Unfortunately their parish councils will have to self fund, but DCC have a small budget allocated towards it.

Huge thanks to Campaign supporters who did a 12hr count on Dryden Road 🌞🌧🎐counting >1500 people on foot, wheels.
We've noted some significant new info that DCC'll need to consider should they choose to think about different ways to keep Dryden Road safe for people on foot, wheels, and bike.
Two people stand on a pavement looking at passing traffic. A person is cycling in the road.

How providing safe routes for walking/wheeling/cycling/scooting can help reduce traffic.

Lessons here for those wanting to rip out a Dryden Rd, Exeter...
Screenshot of a long quote (from the linked article) where one mother explains how her children should be able to walk, can't because of the traffic speeds, so she has to drive, creating a vicious circle.

DCC not on Bluesky = responsibility for roads - prob best authority to contact.

This page is quite useful for reporting missing signage, potholes, defective lighting etc.

We'd agree. Those sections aren't safe & don't feel safe. No doubt deterring families from letting their children walk/scoot/ride independently to high school, and others even considering cycling provision wheeling as an everyday way to get about.

Scheme's traffic calming aims seem sound.

The Exminster/city centre cycle route is mostly high-grade. Stretch from (& including) point of 📷 & along Sannerville Way/Bridge Road is poor in that multiple crossings of fast-moving/high-volume roads is required + numerous service access points to cross.

Do you live, work or travel in #Exminster?
DCC/Parish Council are looking for feedback on proposals to make travel by foot, wheels & bike safer/easier.
eg a new walking/cycling crossing across Main Rd (pictured) on E2 cycle route.

A HGV drives along the wide road approaching Exminster village. A cycle path sign can be seen on the opposite pavement/shared cycle path when the pavement on the nearside ends abruptly in grass.

People in London used to say, "We're not Amsterdam".

Now Exeter says, " We're not London".

We can do it.

The Embankment cycleway (CS3) in London was purposefully built to be wider than was usual in order to future proof it.

Some said it would hardly be used.

Now there’s a decent case for widening it further.

Induced demand is real.

You'll need to update the app. That's all it seems.

Thank you for sharing your story.

We don't hear the voices of youngsters often enough.

Maybe we need a voxpop to hear them? They'll not be on Bluesky for sure!

We are still welcoming comments on Dryden Rd.

Any feedback for us, Exeter? (UK)

How do you feel about Dryden Road? Has the 2020 filter changed your route into work, school or the shops? What would the impact be on you if the Dryden Road filter were removed?
exetercycling.bsky.social
Some figures from Devon County Council:
At the Dryden Road-Bovemoors Lane roundabout since the filter was installed in 2020:-
Motor traffic: down by ca 3,000 vehicles/day
Cycling journeys: more than doubled.
Bovemoors Lane since 2005:-
Motor traffic: up by about 800 vehicles a day.

And if this inspires you to do more, please get in touch as we are planning to pull together similar documents for other areas where we know there are changes being considered.
