So, I don't really need a hardcore cold weather pump, just backup for those relatively rare cold snaps. I'm going to see if we can actually fit one *with* our furnace, which would honestly solve the whole thing.

That's awesome. I'm not offgrid but yes I have solar and battery, so it's not so much that I *can't* run resistive heating, but it's just horribly inefficient and I'm screwed if power goes out, which it does regularly. I'm actually not that far from you - Ohio valley

What brand/model did you go with? I've been seriously considering switching to a heat pump, but have balked at the cost of a hybrid heater, because we sometimes dip to below 0F and a pump can't do it, and I don't have enough battery to run a resistive heater.
