I remember when 3d went big and crap looked like this for the next 15 years :/ biggest downgrade ever.

Today’s #RandomGameSaturday I reached into my Genesis game stack and came away with Phelios, a massively overlooked vertical shmup that takes place in Ancient Greek legends. It’s well worth checking out, with some great set pieces, cool powerups, and its own style and pace.

I’m really trying to think and it could be Test Drive 1

Seconded

Post a game you remember playing that nobody else remembers

I adore the pink Famicom cartridge for Kirby’s Adventure

North America releases of a bunch of games from Europe, some under alternate names. Except for Buggy Boy which is Japanese but seemed to only be popular in Europe (?), which is too bad because it’s awesome.

The Uridium gatefold is one of my favorite things in my collection.

A relic from my youth. Probably all freeware disk mag stuff. I was also fascinated with copying pd games into the ramdisk.

Prime 1 on Cube is around here somewhere too— got it when I got a Cube

Reminder that if you like Alisia Dragoon that you will like Firehawk; same dev, same combat system, bigger and less linear levels. This is the DOS port but it’s originally on PC-88.

Can you believe there are people in this universe who don’t like Bloody Wolf? I know, right? A+ game imo

Have you ever tried Crossbow on 7800, where you have to protect doofuses from being killed as they saunter across the screen with no urgency. It’s actually pretty good and there’s a Sega Light Phaser adaptor you can use.

Ninja JaJaMaru is one of my favorite classic era games on the Famicom

I enjoy the warm tones of Gauntlet on cassette.

This is a pretty good version and it’s the version I played as a kid, although I played it off of a disk copy instead. The load times are the same, somehow.

Wheelie is a jank classic ZX Spectrum game. The concept is you’re riding a stunt bike through underground caverns you have to navigate, dodging hedgehogs and stuff. Then you have to race a ghost driver back to the start iirc. I need to play this one again sometime.

How rad is Rolling Thunder 2? It’s got this Golgo 13 style and the gameplay is tight as hell. This is expanded upon and refined from the arcade original.

Got all the Metroids for Switch

I’ve been posting a lot of intentional picks from my collection daily so here’s a true #RandomGameSaturday — pulled out MDK2! MDK1 and 2 were fairly big games at the time, put out by Shiny (Earthworm Jim): mid budget titles with a dose of goofy/irreverent 90s humor.

Maybe the brain swap was a bad idea

This is one of my favorite things in my collection. Paradroid I had on a floppy of miscellaneous games. Uridium I had never heard of until the late 90s.

Paradroid is an all time classic strategic action game and Uridium is a good classic shooter that’s kind of like a sideways Dreadnought Factor.

Expendable is a good run n gun which has largely been forgotten about. It was also on PC and PS1, though I remember it pushing 3d hardware at the time from the number of glowing explosions and particles it throws out. Lots of good variety. My only beef is the occasional camera problem.

I drew this weird thing last night as a sort of abstract journaling session

Granada has one of my favorite game covers. We really lost a lot when we went from hand painted art to 3d or even to Photoshop. Every increase in efficiency does come at the cost of the human touch in some way or another, even if you gain something elsewhere.
