Yesterday I edited the trailer for my newest micro-budget film project, Intravenus. Aside from sending out private screener copies, I'm currently planning possible ways to have the film shown.

If you've seen the original 1970s teaser for Mario Bava's Bay of Blood, certain stylistic details of this trailer may ring some bells. I really had 70s to early 80s Italian film on the mind while editing this.

Production on The God Machine continues at the same time as Intravenus. My current plan is to have both films completed around the same time, likely following Intravenus directly with The God Machine.

Our last day of Aaron Kearns’ @eyeodyssey.bsky.social “Intravenus” shooting was Wednesday with Megan Poole and Joshua Haire. And it went great as well. Megan was a wonderful person with whom to work, and I am glad to have made her acquaintance. I went home on an emotional high...

Filming “Intravenus” Monday with Aaron Kearns @eyeodyssey.bsky.social, Joshua Haire, Chandler Balli, Lawson Reis and Rachel Walker. Monday’s shoot ended our main days of filming. They have all been heavy-lifting, intense days with a lot demanded of the actors. At the beginning, I felt that…

I can't emphasize enough how essential the talent of the actors and crew who volunteered was to giving the film its final personality. Fully knowing the minimal resources they committed themselves to the film, giving a surrealistic script a level of human realism.

The headmaster looking over an IV bag. The unknown woman reluctantly approaching a stairwell that leads to the building's exit. A distorted shot of the headmaster authoritatively looking over Comet in the corner of the infirmary. Rudolph taunting the frozen doll version of Clarice with his horse marionette. Her eyes have moved, showing that she's still conscious despite her frozen state.

The two days saw the wrapping of a large majority of the cast alongside the introduction of a new character. Most of the time since filming has been spent on editing and animating for The God Machine. Only two cutaway shoots are left later this month before the film officially wraps production.
The headmaster and Comet, the two are stood at a podium in the corner of the infirmary while the headmaster speak to Comet. An unknown woman (Megan Poole) trapped in the classroom from the film's prior scenes. She corners herself to one of the walls as she anxiously inspects the space. The 26th and 28th of June were the final days of scripted principal photography for Intravenus. These filming days counted for a large part of the movie's closing segment alongside the first of a set of cutaways that provide further context to the film's scenario.
A distorted long shot that shows the headmaster (Joshua Haire) approaching Rudolph (Chandler Balli) and Comet (Lawson Reis) in a derelict infirmary. Comet is contorting on the ground in pain as Rudolph watches in fear. A shot of Rudolph and Clarice (Rachel Walker). Comet is inspecting an IV lead connected to Clarice as she is frozen in an unnatural doll-like state. They are in the infirmary. Filming on Intravenus continues. The 21st and 23rd marked two of the three ensemble cast days in filming, tackling a majority of the film’s first act and a sequence for the second act. Alongside returning faces we also see the arrival of the last two primary characters, Rudolph and Comet.

Amidst the activity of production, the 23rd also sadly marked the last day of production for Brice Heller and makeup artist and production worker Zia, both were involved with the production since its first day and will be missed on the last few days of shooting.
Another shot of the full cast. The headmaster (Joshua Haire) is no longer at the podium but rather standing at the side of a TV that's displaying abstract medical imagery. Rudolph (Chandler Balli) is playing with an antique horse marionette on the table out of boredom. A closeup of the table, giving a good view of the horse marionette and decorative siamese twin skull alongside the assortment of medical cutouts that are spread across the table. Filming involved nonsensical phrenological exams, morbid anatomical projections, more mannequin puppetry, and a full table of Futurist-inspired cuisine served with a side of slight regret.

What we were doing Wednesday—and so fortunate to have gathered this group of very talented people—filming more intense scenes of “Intravenus” with the assistance of Zia and Martin Kearns @martinkearnsatl.bsky.social. We filmed Monday as well. From left to right are: Lawson Reis, Joshua Haire...
Classroom scene with "students" seated at a table facing the camera. Behind them is the "instructor". In the rear is a cabinet in which is a dummy and to the left is a video screen. On the table are assorted books, clippings and some oddities. Aaron, the director, is to the right, filming.

Filming on Intravenus continues.
March concluded on an intensely active note with our third day of principal photography, four scenes were tackled, three of which featured dialogue that was as intense thematically as it was in length and detail. Editing of the scenes has been ongoing since shooting.
Rachel Walker and Brice Anthony Heller as they appear in the film Intravenus, appearing as Clarice and Hermey respectively. Clarice is seated at a table decorated with macabre pieces of medical ephemera as Hermey stands in the back with a measuring tape. The two are in an antiquated classroom. Said shot is in black and white. Rachel Walker as she appears in the film Intravenus, appearing as Clarice. Her face is barely lit against a darkened background, looking up to an unseen space above her. Said shot is in black and white. Brice Anthony Heller he appears in the film Intravenus, appearing as Hermey. He’s stood in front of a black cabinet in the classroom. The scene is dimly lit. A macabre anatomical diagram puppet is dangling inside the cabinet, its body is vaguely illuminated by the projection of an antique anatomical illustration of an Anatomical Venus, her exposed organs casting strange optical phantoms on the surrounding wall. Said shot is in black and white. Rachel Walker as she appears in the film Intravenus, appearing as Clarice. She is in the dimly lit classroom, searching through a set of papers atop a teacher’s podium. A jarred conjoined fetus is resting on the other side of the podium. The Anatomical Venus projection ominously stands overhead behind her. Said shot is in black and white.

One of the scenes of note was Hermey's Chemical Reaction monologue. Functioning as a somnambulist for most of the film, he briefly 'awakens' to give a grotesquely Artaudian dialogue about the biological nature of his obsessions (my attempt at doing a variant of the theater of cruelty in film form).
An earlier shot of Hermey (Brice Anthony Heller) in the darkened classroom. The Anatomical Venus projection isn't visible on the wall yet. He's holding the anatomical model puppet above him by its throat, striking a dynamic pose in the process. Another shot from the same dimly lit classroom scene with just Hermey (Brice Anthony Heller). He's searching through a kit of dissection tools, drawing out a pair of scissors. A wide angle view of Hermey (Brice Anthony Heller) in the darkened classroom. He's stood at the podium with the puppet in the closet directly behind him. With two surgical tools in hand, he's preparing to strike the jarred fetus like a percussive instrument as he speaks. The Anatomical Venus projection ominously stands overhead. A final screenshot of Hermey's appearance in the darkened classroom scene. He's stood directly in front of the cabinet, both doors of the cabinet swung open as he reaches his arms out to parallel the opened doors. The jarred fetus holds prominence in the foreground.

This day and the future filming days will highlight the film's underground theater influences, crossing very serious and at certain points deeply discomforting moments with bits of surrealism and absurdism.

Rachel Walker as she appears in the film Intravenus, appearing as Clarice. She's entering the darkened classroom through a doorway, the light on the other side of the door being the only source of illumination. Said shot is in black and white. Rachel Walker as she appears in the film Intravenus, appearing as Clarice. She is in the dimly lit classroom, stepping back fearfully as an unnaturally lit phantom version of the anatomical diagram puppet materializes in the cabinet. In place of one of its plastic limbs, an unmistakably human arm reaches out to her with the same pair of scissors that Hermey drew from the dissection kit. The framing of the shot highlights how the cabinet is positioned exactly at the center of the Anatomical Venus projection, making the cabinet appear like a sort of doorway into the Anatomical Venus' torso that the puppet emerges from. Said shot is in black and white. An alternate angle of the prior shot, giving further details of the human arm that reaches to Clarice.
