A simple pair of glasses transformed Nguyen’s life; sharpening her vision, boosting her confidence, and bringing joy to everyday moments.

On #WorldSightDay, her story is a reminder that basic eye care isn’t a luxury, it is a fundamental right 👉 bit.ly/4odWmRP
Graphic showing Nguyen, a factory worker, sitting at a sewing machine and smiling. Text reads: “Nguyen, a factory worker with over two decades on the sewing line, found even routine tasks challenging as her eyesight began to deteriorate.” Graphic with orange background and text: “Nguyen’s life changed with a simple pair of eyeglasses. Clear vision transforms both work and daily life. It’s not just about being able to see. It’s about dignity.” Includes a small circular photo of Nguyen smiling while wearing glasses.

📢 Sheffield - "Fast Leadership"

“In a city once choked with cars and infamous for its traffic snarls, Paris has pulled off a remarkable turnaround…the French capital has officially become Europe’s best city for children to walk, cycle, and move around independently.” Via @momentummag.bsky.social

A victory for FAST leadership.

"Age is just a number" is such an annoying phrase.

Patriotism is hating the flag being used to divide.

Back in London and even though it's miles and miles ahead of Sheffield, Euston Rd is an awful start to a trip to England on Eurostar 🙄

A wall of noisy, smelly traffic - ULEZ not having impact it does in Paris.

Anyway loved your writing for a couple of decades and the new approach to sport in The Observer is spot on ✊🏻

And you capture the multiple reasons it's better - including tickets price (£550 cheapest at Ryder Cup I read in your paper) - but, the big one for me was the players coming out smiling. If England men's football team could appear to enjoy their amazing opportunities, they might win too?

Been to games in Sunderland, York, Northampton and quarters and semis in Bristol (missed final due to work). Atmosphere around and in grounds has been amazing.

As someone grew up thinking live sport was being terrified behind the caging at Baseball Ground and outside after, it's a revelation.

It's much more relaxed.

And really nice to walk miles in a big city and not have worrying grey nose secretions.

Why get elect and justify inaction because of fear of dinosaur media headlines about being "anti-car" - when in fact it would be pro-people.

If a global capital can domit in such a short space of time, then it means a small city like ours should be inspired by the possibility of quick change.

And if they talk to @felly500.bsky.social they will hear that the health benefits beyond air quality are highly desirable too.

Forget re-opening failed airports if you want economic revival.

My colleagues laugh at me as I wander around smiling at the streetscape - all schools have car free zones outside.

Cargo bikes everywhere. And people in bikes not dressed in hi-viz - dressed in normal (nice) clothes.

And bikes stop at red lights/crossings.

Why don't other city leaders see this and think, yep I'm going to do that?

Loads of research shows the economic benefits of taking car space away and giving it to people.

I wish Sheffield leaders would talk to people like @brenttoderian.bsky.social about how to do it.

Why so terrified?
