"SUVs offered the industry a simple way of charging more for a vehicle that does the same thing."
With the world heating up [and more pedestrians being killed], why are more SUVs being sold?

"Oil consumption of SUVs accounts for more than ¼ of the total annual rise in global oil demand.
The trend toward heavier and less efficient vehicles such as SUVs… has largely nullified the improvements in energy consumption and emissions achieved elsewhere in the world's passenger car fleet."

The problem repeats itself across issue after issue. Majorities support moderate gun qualifications, democratic norms, human decency, and climate action. Still, progress is blocked, with powerful systems like mainstream media firmly in reactionary hands. So how do we break the deadlock?
A huge 89% majority of global people [56% even in the United States] want stronger action to fight the #ClimateCrisis, but mistakenly believe they’re in a minority.

The “silent majority” for #ClimateAction needs to get loud.

People want action. Smart cities need to go much further, much faster.
Activate climate’s ‘silent majority’ to supercharge action, experts say
Making concerned people aware their views are far from alone could unlock the change so urgently needed

In 2026 we'll prob have continue to counter "the Populist Playbook"(HT @brenttoderian.bsky.social) - it looks familiar!
But let's press for the good stuff too eg Nurses Way/Stoke Arms roundabout.
What are your top 10 priorities for a lovelier Exeter & safer cycling?

Have you heard of “The Populist Playbook?”

A few years ago, I posted what I still consider one of my most important messages.

It was about “The Populist Playbook” that I’ve watched play out often over my 33+ years of city planning.

Since then, it’s only gotten worse.

Do the steps sound familiar?

I think this is partly because if you're American, you probably have dear loved ones in this death cult. This is very personal and we need hope for people in our lives on top of the broader horrors happening
I’m still not sure if enough Americans fully understand how hard it is for the rest of us to continually see polls showing “how unpopular Trump is” when he’s he’s still ridiculously and shockingly more popular than he should be in any sane nation.

There's a reason that the Trump regime still didn't publish all the #Epstein files. And by now, it's abundantly clear that it's not to protect the victims.

As many cities get smarter at evidence-based city-building, positioning themselves for greater success in every way we can count, and many ways we can’t, some cities seem obsessed with self-sabotage. Case-in-point: city “leaders” arguing for the removal of safe bike infrastructure. #OwnGoal

When ICE goons scoop up victims in Minnesota (regardless of citizenship) they ship them as fast as possible to a detention center in El Paso, Texas

If released, they drop them outside the detention center in Texas. No support.

For my non-US friends: El Paso is over 2200 km from Minneapolis

Nations don’t “aid” cities. Cities are the economic engines of nations.

Giving cities back money they generate is not only fair and appropriate, it’s smart and necessary.

No nation can prosper, or even survive, if it’s attacking its cities. Period.

"Public investment" vs "Wasteful Subsidy." The only problem with this clever Singer cartoon is that some people might actually not get that it’s sarcastically illustrating the incorrect perception problem, NOT telling the truth.

Just in case it actually needs to be said, the truth is the opposite.
