like if one latino person thinks everyone should use latinè I’m not going to immediately start using latinè blindly. I’m going to generally try to use it around them and take that into account for others. if I learn that the majority of latinos themselves use latino, I’m prob gonna default to that
December 10, 2025 at 7:20 PM
what I meant is that at the end of the day you have to decide what to default to when talking to people. I think “latinè” is the kind of thing where different people of that ethnicity will reasonably disagree on what’s the best thing to say. you just have to choose for yourself what to use

or if you just know *of* a situation like this, feel free to tell that story instead
December 10, 2025 at 6:35 PM
depends on the person you’re talking to tbh. if you want to default to latine, cool. and if someone tells you that kinda sucks and to not use it, probably respect that, at the very least around them. if multiple people say that probably switch it up entirely. up to whatever feels right for you tho

sure, but the answer isn’t to buy in to the idea that it solves all our problems either (or even that many problems). they should probably just say it’s useful as a tool sometimes but also employ the Walz strat of calling anyone who sees it as the messiah “weird”

that’s what worries me more than anything. that people will see AI as the answer to many of their problems and see the Republicans embracing it.
December 10, 2025 at 2:12 AM
imagine if the general public is told AI will solve their healthcare problems (they won’t have to trust doctors anymore), they won’t have to drive but will be driven everywhere and if they have a car they can rent it out, and their jobs will get easier and easier (not that they will go away)

Trump seems to see the importance of keeping the tech oligarchy in his camp. in June he appointed 4 new Lt. Cols. to the military from Palantir, Meta, and OpenAI. I think he’s always known the power of messaging and is realizing that tech and AI can provide a *hopeful* vibe for his strongman govt

the options going forward for the Republican Party will be naked Fascism (Stephen Miller vibes, even if he doesn’t run) and Technofuturism. naked Fascism will be too unpopular, but Technofuturism could add the *excitement* of AI and tech as a veneer over traditional authoritarian conservatism.
December 10, 2025 at 2:12 AM
so we ended up with Trump. Biden fails to *energize* a dying neoliberalism bc he’s literally dying and there was no Socialist alternative, so we got Trump fucking *again*. but make no mistake: both neoliberalism and naked crony capitalism are likely over. no one wants this shit anymore
December 10, 2025 at 2:12 AM
in 2016 we had 3 options: Hillary, Bernie, and Trump. those in power hated even a hint of Socialism more than Strongman Crony Capitalism, so they chose to support Trump over Bernie. average joes believed Trump was a threat to the establishment like Bernie, so they split between Trump and Bernie.
December 10, 2025 at 2:12 AM
think of neoliberalism as Hillary Clinton, fascism as Stephen Miller (not Trump), Strongman Crony Capitalism as Trump, and Technofuturism as Elon Musk pre-2024.

I’m just gonna repost what nerdjpg posted above to help you understand why something one person called “national socialism” doesn’t have to actually be socialism
December 9, 2025 at 9:36 PM
while this is true, it’s more accurate to understand Hitler as incorrect about Socialism and its history than as a pioneer of Socialist thought or that he had some new and novel take on it

the utility of hearing advice in natural language is just that it feels more trustworthy, not that it’s actually better. Reddit is both in human language AND actually from a human. ChatGPT is only the former.

if these are the only options: do you think Woll can stay healthy as a number 2 guy, playing like 25 games a season? or do we need to elevate Hildeby to number 2/1a and trade Woll?

would Bluesky implement age verification in 35-40% of all countries if they had to, or would they push back at some point? if it’s the latter I just think it’s smarter to join the wave of public backlash on the side of a free and open internet

1 or 2 places having bad laws is w/e, but this is a concerted effort in the UK and many US states that want to implement these laws. if it becomes precedent many other countries will implement them too. we need hard, united pushback on laws like this or it will accelerate. what’s their red line?
December 9, 2025 at 2:41 AM
yea I know about the ban, I was moreso asking why they don’t take a stance against these laws instead of trying to cooperate. I know that’s a bit more of a risk but like Paul has said, sometimes it’s better to take a stance than to try and stay impartial
