Despite promising to address drug traffickers, Treasury is allowing China's money laundering networks to spread fentanyl in our communities. By gutting the Corporate Transparency Act, the US allows cartels to move their cash through our system with impunity.

As the price of gold rises, so does the prevalance of harmful illegal mining. Mercury is a key metal used in the gold mining process, and has fueled the ongoing mining rush. To combat the resulting environmental damage, the US must take action.

Earlier this month, FinCEN announced that it will delete information collected under the Corporate Transparency Act. As FACT's @ianpgary.bsky.social told @icij.org, such destruction of data would be “doubling down on Treasury’s unlawful gutting of this statute.”

Congressional appropriators are threatening to defund the nation's accounting standard-setter over new corporate tax reporting rules.

These new rules responded to investor demands for better disclosures - they shouldn't be in the political firing line.

It's no surprise that the global financial crime watchdog, FATF, will be prioritizing benficial ownership registries in their next round of evaluations. Criminals rely on U.S. shell companies to hide their illicit profits. To avoid a negative evaluation, the US must improve.
