June felt like yesterday…now it’s pumpkin spice season 🎃☕🐟 Didn’t we just do a data push? Yep, and it’s time again! Upload your detections & see where your fish have been adventuring. 🦈👀

Detection extracts have been updated! Head over to Research Workspace to see your new animal detections.
*Important Note* The detection extracts have changed across all nodes with updated column names, a new uncorrected time column, and a new sentinel tag owner data product.

How do mobile ocean robots compare to traditional acoustic arrays when tracking sharks and other coastal fish? 🤖🐟
A new study explores this by comparing a Wave Glider to a stationary acoustic array off Cape Canaveral, FL.

With over 500 species of sharks these animals play an important role in keeping our ocean ecosystems healthy. Sharks are especially vulnerable to overfishing because of their long lives, few offspring, and are often misunderstood due to their fearsome reputations.

We’re excited to share some changes within the FACT Network Steering Committee! As we thank Beth Bowers and Bob Ellis for their dedicated service, we also welcome a new leadership team and two familiar faces joining the committee.

Inspired by @AquaticTracking.bsky.social we took a closer look at how the FACT Network contributes to tracking species at risk of extinction.
Within the FACT Network, researchers have tagged 140 different species and 43% of them are at risk of extinction. ⬇️

FACT uses acoustic and satellite tracking to uncover how sea turtles interact with fishing gear, identify critical habitats at risk from dredging, and explore solutions like artificial reefs to offset habitat loss from coastal development.
