Fibonacci would have loved Australian wildflowers.

I enjoyed these preprints. I like your approach ranging from genome mining, phylogeny, microscopy, and genetics to establish function. Lovely work. I found it ironic that the Chloroflexata had to again reinvent a signal transfer protein from the
chemotaxis system to steer with the archaellum.

[We are Hiring!]

The Weiss Lab at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (NY) is hiring a Postdoc Scientist to explore the Toxoplasma gondii cyst wall using XL-MS, Split TurboID, & U-ExM.

This project aims to unlock new strategies for treating toxoplasmosis.

Wow, surprising that a wholesale swap of propulsion mechanism across Domains is possible.

Slow growth was always a very limiting factor in studying Paulinella. This could be a game changer @thealgaeman.bsky.social

A colleague has one of these in Seattle and loves it. Strong cooperative body because everyone lives in their building and all seek to make it a nice home.

Wow, cool findings.

True. What scenarios worry you most? I believe there is larval cannibalism, so that is a plausible mechanism for a drive to jump from malaria transmitting Anopheles to other species of mosquito.

I think about mosquitoes like this. Adults don’t grow, they do little ecologically other than pollination and be food for bats, we fixate on the adults because they bite us & spread very serious diseases. The larval stages are massively important in aquatic ecosystems but get scant attention.

Congratulations Yash. Nice paper.

Oddly enough, our isn’t the apicoplast article. 🙃

Additionally, the Manhattan Project cost ~$35b in today’s dollars. Many argue that there was an economic factor in the decision to use it.

My time on Moku O Lo’e is almost at an end. The coral spawning was not very successful. Only three of our 40 colonies spawned. Anyway, had a gorgeous visit and the surf was epic for 2.5 weeks. Biggest waves I’ve ridden in years. And that tsunami evacuation night was one to remember.
Ford and Giada taking me out to the reef This was scary but was eventually no tsunami. We evacuated to the slopes of Diamond Head volcano. Corals netted to harvest spawn. Maybe the nicest lab I’ve ever worked at

Touring the Pacific researching my book on the origin & evolution of Life. Last stop was in Palau 🇵🇼 to see this photosynthetic jellyfish in Ongeim'l Tketau seawater lake. They don’t sting and exist entirely through the food from their pink/brown algal symbionts. They swim to stay in the sunlight.

Solid article, and using the Leonberger as an analogy is inspired.
