Hoagie elegance
A lot of people are! Local/state action is usually the fastest route to change in these cases~ I understand what you mean, though, that it feels like the US should’ve been doing this for a long time already D:

It’s so good that you did, at least! I hope you (and family baby) stay well this winter ❤️

It’s so bad!! Reading/listening to podcasts about manoeuvring around cognitive dissonance has helped me maintain more sanity (and stop doing some unhelpful stuff). And learning to talk to said people with Socratic questioning (and the patience & affect I’d use with a grumpy kindergartener…)

It’s also like…incredibly obvious if you bother to think about it for 5 seconds? Even a live attenuated vaccine (which the covid ones aren’t anyway) has such a smaller impact on your body compared to a full-blown infection, much less repeated infections…It’s just mind-boggling to me

This fallacy drives me absolutely batty

Bahahahaha

No worries, thanks for sticking with me and figuring it out together!

Hahahahahaha I’m literally laughing

Anyway, that’s all I was getting at! & obviously abuse is bad, that should go without saying. Idk re: Paul but John had a sad childhood, & I can’t imagine what it’s like to be F’ed up+trying to heal, all in the then-new mass public eye. None of which excuses abuse, ever, just complicates the picture

Cont. in the “I was myself a teenaged girl” vein - Don’t Stand So Close to Me doesn’t feel like it’s saying “yay creepy older guy”, it feels like it’s taking a common experience (inappropriate attraction) & playing out a cautionary tale, maybe even imagined rather than real. That’s compelling to me!
December 14, 2025 at 4:26 AM
And also, like, life & feelings are complex and shades of grey. Like When I Saw Her Standing There - I’ve been a 17 year old girl, & know what it’s like to flirt with a slightly older guy (both when it’s fun/aboveboard, and when it feels creepy). That song feels (to me! my opinion!) like the former
December 14, 2025 at 4:24 AM
For a lot of art, especially music, I think it’s worth interacting and analysing at different levels - the author’s stated intent, listener interpretation of that intent, listener’s independent interpretation(s), how it feels to listen to, the culture around it, all sorts of things like that.
December 14, 2025 at 4:20 AM
Sure! I think actually we are mostly pretty aligned - I also skip and am repulsed by a lot of their (and other similar older) songs, like Run for your Life where it’s straightforwardly gross, not a complex narrative with multiple potential readings, etc

No wonder you were like “wtf” and I was also like “wtf” LOLLL we were literally having two different conversations! Sorry, it’s like I walked in and only heard the beginning of what you said and didn’t know you & others had continued in a particular direction~
December 14, 2025 at 4:10 AM
Ah! This is a “Bluesky creates many mini-threads & doesn’t display them all in full” issue - I responded to the two things I saw, where you mentioned I Saw Her Standing There and Don’t Stand So Close to Me. I have no idea about whatever thread you’re talking about, because I don’t see them
December 14, 2025 at 4:09 AM
You’re referring to things you & I haven’t been talking about (i.e. that it’s complicated & personal to ponder the meaning, context, & authorship of art). I don’t appreciate the bad faith “question” that ascribes opinions I’d never hold. If you’re not interested in a real convo, let’s end here.
December 14, 2025 at 1:36 AM
I get what you’re saying, & of course all of this is personal preference~ I do think oftentimes artists have a more complex/self-aware take than a face value autobio lyric read would suggest.
And John Lennon was, um, complicated but learned/grew a lot since flirting and misdirecting anger at 23, yk?

I wish I could circle-bold-underline-highlight this!!
Maybe there’s hope - I used to write them at regular intervals about changing the barely intelligible “stay behind the yellow textured strip” announcement to “stay behind the yellow line”. It took years 🥴 but they changed it! Time to email again…

Ughhhh that is so frustrating. There’s no need to invent fake info here! And we can/should/need to do trees AND housing! Thanks again for this additional context~
October 30, 2025 at 12:55 AM
No, I’m legit not very familiar with them, so thanks for the info. Super weird that they don’t support reducing parking reqs, when the only times I’ve seen their action alerts were related to opposing tree removal for driveways!
October 29, 2025 at 11:59 PM
Why would they oppose it?
October 29, 2025 at 7:49 PM
There don’t appear to be any trees at that location?

Blows my mind it’s taken this long…nearly 2/3 of all fossil fuel energy is wasted BEFORE end use (eg production, transportation) - over $4.6 trillion per year & 40% of what we spend on energy is wasted, turned into pollution for zero benefit. It’s all right there in the stark black & white of data!
August 29, 2025 at 10:28 PM
The transition to renewables is well underway! And economically it’s so clearly a better investment (alongside other factors, of course) that capex is way down for fossil fuels and hedge funds are starting to divest. The US may be slowing down for now, but the world is moving along
